The Fraunhofer-Institute for applied information technology, research group “Life-science informatics” (FIT.LIFE) is looking for a master student (IT, Physics, or Mathematics) to take part in the EU-project “SEARISE: Smart Eyes: Attending and Recognizing Instances of Salient Events” with the explicit possibility of the pursuit of a PhD.
The project focuses in the modeling of human vision and the analysis of moving images, to be implemented in a real-time capable system equipped with one stationary and two active cameras. The modeling work is rooted in neuronal and machine learning algorithms. The goal of the work will be the development and implementation of robust mechanisms for recognition of form and motion patterns, which integrate well into a larger system.
The applicant should have a graduate degree in IT, Neuro-IT, Physics, or Mathematics. Furthermore, he or she should bring strong knowledge in the areas of image processing, Neuroinformatics as well as programming skills in c, c++, and Matlab/Octave. Experience with neural algorithms would be of advantage. The task requires the capability to work independently and goal oriented and to develop and implement new algorithms.
