PDC is recruiting a highly skilled expert in wide area data handling to support the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF) in enhancing their usage of PDC’s computational and storage resources.

PDC is the leading Swedish supercomputing center hosted by the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. It operates state-of-the-art computational and storage resources for a variety of scientific application domains, including mechanics, computational chemistry, life sciences, climatology, and physics. Among these systems is the currently largest academic supercomputer of Sweden, Ekman, a 10.000 core capability system for climate and turbulence research with a theoretical peak performance of over 90 TF.
Established in 2005 via the Global Science Forum of OECD, the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF, www.incf.org) has rapidly become a recognized force in neuroscience research for fostering worldwide collaboration, data sharing and standards/guidelines development. With its Secretariat at the Karolinska Institutet and Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, the INCF achieves global outreach through its national nodes in 14 member countries across North America, Europe and Asia.
The successful candidate will join PDC’s support team working closely with INCF on a jointly developed workplan to help them optimize their usage of PDC systems and to establish a Nordic hub in INCF’s global data network linking it with other major sites supporting INCF’s effort worldwide to foster federation and integration of neuroscience data.
Qualifications
Candidates should have an academic education, ideally a Master of Science or PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Neuroinformatics, or related experience, good knowledge of distributed data handling technologies and tools, including parallel file systems, distributed databases, wide area file transfer, and service-oriented architectures. Experiences with Linux system administration as well as with supporting parallel and distributed applications, with a focus on data management is desired. Some background knowledge of the biological sciences is import. Familiarity with specifically Neuroinformatics research is an asset, but not required.
Employment
Fixed term contract. The salary will be set according to the qualifications and experiences of the successful candidate.
