The IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering is one of the leading research journals in the field of neural systems and rehabilitation engineering (NSRE) and is widely disseminated throughout the world.

Original research papers covering the broad spectrum of theoretical and applied biophysics are published following the successful completion of a comprehensive peer review process. This journal was first published in 1994, one of the first devoted to NSRE, and has published over twelve annual volumes. It is published monthly with more than 1,500 editorial pages per year.

Scope of the Manuscripts

The IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering is a peer reviewed journal that publishes recent research results in the broad field of neural systems and rehabilitation engineering. Acceptable manuscripts range in content from neural systems, rehabilitation engineering, and assistive technology. Acceptable papers range in content from practical/clinical applications through experimental science and technological development to formalize mathematical theory. Typical topics include, but certainly are not limited, to the following:

Reviews and Special Topics

* Neural Engineering
* Rehabilitation Engineering
* Neural-Rehabilitation Interfaces
Most manuscripts are published as full papers or brief communications and present the results of recent research. Full papers present comprehensive coverage of a topic and are complete in terms of the theory analysis, experimental design, methods, subject studied, data presented, discussion of results and conclusions. Communications, on the other hand, are shorter manuscripts and can present work in progress or describe a new method or instrument. Another type of manuscript is review papers. Important review papers are published following peer review when the topic is of current interest to the profession or the subject represents an emerging area in biomedical engineering. Criteria for publishing review papers are quit stringent, since this type of manuscript is usually published in our sister publication, the EMB Magazine. When important new areas of neural systems and rehabilitation engineering emerge, special issues or sections of the IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering are published. A guest editor is appointed who announces the special issue and solicits contributed manuscripts as well as invites leading researchers in the field to submit manuscripts. All manuscripts in special issues receive the same stringent peer review as manuscripts that appear in regular issues.
